The French introduced cacao trees to Saint Lucia in the 1700’s, knowing that they would flourish in the island's rich volcanic, rainforest-shaded soil. An explosion in demand brought about a thriving industry for Saint Lucia cocoa, which still produces some of the world’s most sought-after chocolate to date.
