Twin Centres October 2, 2018

Double up on your holiday with a twin centre, allowing you to visit two different destinations on one fabulous trip.

City to Beach - Dubai & The Maldives

It's hard to believe that just a few decades ago, neither Dubai nor the Maldives would have featured on the average holiday itinerary - today, they stand out as two of the world's most desirable destinations. And with just a four-hour flight between them, pairing them makes perfect sense.

Jumeirah Zabeel Saray, Dubai

Larger than life and wildly futuristic, Dubai dazzles with its intoxicating blend of the ancient and modern, bustling souks and soaring skyscrapers, blazing deserts and sleek shopping malls. The iconic Palm Jumeirah fans out into the Arabian Gulf, and on the western edge of this man-made marvel sits the palatial Jumeirah Zabeel Saray.

This opulent hotel is replete with gilded columns, mosaics and murals, evoking the splendour of an Ottoman palace. Nine restaurants, a 59-metre infinity pool, a cinema and a shopping avenue lined with 14 boutiques are enough to keep anyone busy, yet it’s the spa that steals the show here. The multiple-award winning Talise Ottoman Spa is one of the largest and most luxuriant spas in the world, with its accolades including Best Turkish Hammam Treatment at the Cosmopolitan Middle East Beauty Awards 2017.

Kanuhura, Maldives

The 1,200 islands of the Maldives are scattered across the Indian Ocean like glimmering stars in the night sky, enticing travellers to their white-sand dusted, palm-fringed shores with a promise of paradise.

You’ll fly over the islands by seaplane to reach Kanuhura, a resort characterised by its castaway chic vibe, part bohemian, part unabashed luxury. It’s all about getting back to nature here; dive to some of the Maldives’ most spectacular dive sites, take a speedboat cruise to spot dolphins and manta rays, visit deserted islands, and take part in sunrise yoga if you’re an early bird. The villas’ and bungalows’ semi open-air bathrooms are stunning, with pebblestones and paved slabs surrounding large soaking tubs and, in some accommodations, an overwater hammock.

10 nights from €3,655 per person, staying 3 nights at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray in a Superior King Room on Half Board, followed by 7 nights at Kanuhura in a Beach Bungalow on Full Board.

Island to Island - Nevis & St. Kitts

Caribtours’ Marketing Executive Amy recently travelled to Nevis & St. Kitts. She tells us why these two tiny Caribbean islands make the perfect pair.

The best thing about combining Nevis and St. Kitts is that they’re so different but so close together. Within just 15 minutes, you can reach one from the other by boat, and you’re greeted with an entirely different vibe on each island.

Nevis is very tranquil and it’s stayed close to its roots and traditions. Nothing is built taller than a palm tree and you won’t find mass tourism or overcrowded beaches here. It’s the ideal location for simply relaxing and taking in all the breathtaking beauty of the region, with the lush green hues of Nevis Peak and the untouched golden sands of the beaches.

One of the things that struck me about Nevis was how much character each hotel has – from the historic splendour of Nisbet Plantation to the present-day finery of the Four Seasons, there’s something to suit all personalities. For such a small island, the quality of the hotels and the gastronomy is just outstanding; great news for me as good food is always on my radar.

At the beautifully-boutique Montpelier Plantation, chefs produce some of the finest cuisine imaginable. We banqueted on a seven-course tasting menu in the hotel’s atmospheric 300-year-old stone sugar mill which is the only restaurant of its kind in the world. The dishes presented to us were out-of-this-world exceptional – rich lobster bisque, fresh tuna tartare and desserts that could have been framed as artwork.

Dining in the sugar mill is ideal for special occasions – I wasn’t surprised to find out that lots of people propose to their significant other in there – but Montpelier is a Relais & Châteaux hotel so, of course, the culinary adventures don’t stop there. There are two main restaurants, Restaurant 750 for gourmet creations, and Indigo for casual poolside dining. Cooking classes and demonstrations, plus wine and rum tasting, are also available here so you can really let your inner culinary connoisseur loose.

St. Kitts didn’t let me down on the food side either, with the Reggae Beach Bar being our first stop here, for spicy shrimp and rum punch, before we had a go at glass-bottom kayaking in the crystal-clear ocean just adjacent to the bar.

There are adventures galore on the island; for the bold and the brave, there’s zip lining through the rainforest, or, for something less adrenaline-inducing, drive up to the UNESCO-listed Brimstone Hill Fortress which dates back to the 17th Century. Down at sea level, the colourful capital Basseterre has markets and shops thronging with people; it’s a great place to pick up some souvenirs and eye the colossal cruise ships docked in port.

With the recent opening of Park Hyatt St. Kitts, the island welcomes a luxury resort set right on the beach with suites and restaurants to impress, as well as a 37,000-square-foot spa which is the first Miraval Life in Balance Spa in the Caribbean.

7 nights from €2,229 staying 3 nights at Park Hyatt St. Kitts in a Park King Double Room on Room Only and 4 nights at Montpelier Plantation in a Premier Room including breakfast.
