Karen, our Trade Sales Manager, visited the beautiful Viceroy Riviera Maya in Mexico last year, she fills us in on what she got up to and why she loved this incredible boutique hotel.
After the most unique check in I have experienced, which included a blessing as part of an ancient Mayan ritual by the resort's resident Shaman, we were shown to our rooms by our private butlers. We were then offered our own personal locally produced handmade soaps, that our butlers hand-cut for us. I knew from then, it would be a very special experience staying here. Small touches in the room were beautiful - our welcome gifts included a mini bottle of tequila with a lovely hand painted artisanal shot glass alongside fresh lime and salt! This hotel has won numerous awards - one being the 'Best Hotel Greeting' in the world, and it was clear to see why. This is certainly a perfect hotel for those looking to escape and visit somewhere offering truly authentic Mayan experiences.
Unlike any other resort I’ve stayed at in Mexico, Viceroy Riviera Maya only has 41 villas, creating a lovely boutique atmosphere. Because of this, they’re excellent at the little things that really make a difference to your stay, such as tequila-tasting sessions, traditional Mayan spa treatments and the opportunity to have candle-lit dinners on the beach.
My Luxury Villa was absolutely beautiful and had a gorgeous bathroom with a free-standing bathtub, rain shower and outdoor shower area. The villas each have their own private plunge pools and I loved sunbathing in the hammock next to it. My garden felt so private and secluded like I was in the Maldives rather than Mexico. 
Viceroy Riviera Maya is all about being relaxed – lunch was taken at Coral Grill & Bar, a long and lazy affair that made me never want to leave. For dinner, La Marea restaurant really hits the right note for romantic cuisine, perfect for couples and honeymooners.
