Formerly home to the legendary Blackbeard, the capital city, Nassau, on the island of New Providence, is full of pastel pink shops, Georgian architecture, tree-lined streets and fish fry shacks. Most of  our featured resorts are located on New Providence but we can arrange day trips or overnight stays on many of the smaller Out Islands. For a once in a lifetime experience, take a swim in the crystal clear waters of the Exumas with the wild pigs that reside on Big Major Cay, where these friendly animals will piggy-paddle alongside you for a unique photo opportunity. Harbour Island’s three miles of dreamy pink sands, laid back vibe and delicious local cuisine are a huge draw, and on secluded Eleuthera you’ll taste some of the sweetest pineapple in the world and sunbathe on exceptional beaches.

Whichever island you choose, watersports enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice with bone fishing, sailing, snorkelling and diving all popular pastimes here. You’ll find colourful coral reefs just offshore and for more adventurous scuba divers, the Bahamas is home to some of the most challenging cave and wreck diving on the planet.

Exploring the Bahamas...

Bahamas below water

This is a truly magnificent place to snorkel in the shallows, but if you pull on some scuba gear and go deeper you’ll rub shoulders with the many sharks (of the harmless reef variety!), dolphins and rays that are found all around these islands. For those divers who come to The Bahamas for adventure, some of the most challenging cave and wreck diving on the planet can be found here.

The Out Islands

Paradise Island is where it’s all happening, but do take a trip over to some of the tiny Out Islands and experience the slow pace of life and chilled out vibe. With so many islands to choose from it’s hard to pick a favourite, but we love the Exumas. The bright white sand of the deserted beaches contrasts with the deep aquamarine of the water, making this chain of islands and cays one of the prettiest in The Bahamas. Then there’s exclusive Harbour Island with its three and a half mile stretch of picture-perfect pink sand beach and great restaurants. We suggest you do some island hopping in the Out Islands and make up your own mind.

Ardastra Gardens, Zoo and Conservation Centre

In the heart of downtown Nassau, this is a great family day out. The five and a half acre park is part jungle, part gardens and home to hundreds of beautiful mammals, birds, and reptiles from around the world, including many endangered species from The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean.

Swim with wild pigs

For one of the most unique experiences in the Caribbean, head to Pig Island (or Big Major Cay as it’s officially known), to swim with the wild pigs that live there. The animals are thought to have been abandoned on the island by sailors and, having escaped the cooking pot, can now be seen frolicking on the beaches and basking in the sunshine.
