The Other Side of the Island August 18, 2015

The colonial city of Santo Domingo is the Dominican Republic’s vibrant capital and one of the Caribbean’s oldest cities. Also a UNESCO world heritage site, it enjoys the perfect mix of old world charm and modern Latin flair.

The energetic nightlife, brilliant shopping and love of baseball keep it is as cosmopolitan as any modern city, but it’s the allure of the medieval fortresses and beautiful 16th century architecture which really makes it spectacular.

“Zona Colonial” is home to the first cathedral built in the New World and is a must see. Explore the historical cobbled streets and absorb the culture, heritage and unique customs of the Dominican Republic, and as the sun sets you can salsa the night away at the popular merengue and bachata clubs.

The Malecón is the capitals famous oceanfront promenade and on Sunday’s it becomes a pedestrian-only thoroughfare, where locals and tourists alike join together to dance, drink rum and relax.

Bequia Beach Hotel

St Vincent & The Grenadines

With such a beautiful, secluded beach to enjoy, this is the perfect spot to kick back and relax with a cocktail whilst enjoying the views of Mustique in the distance

Owned and operated by a Swedish family, their keen attention to detail is evident throughout the hotel - we love the cool, colonial décor which is super stylish and full of character

Dining out on Bequia is a very special experience - the hotel’s owner, Bengt, will be happy to recommend some of the excellent restaurants where you can sample delicious Caribbean cuisine and get to know the friendly Bequia locals
